AT&T CallVantage, Vonage, and Packet8 offer unlimited VOIP phone service for only  $24.99.  ViaTalk offers VOIP service for only 22.95, get phone service for only $9.99.  These all sound like great deals, way better than what we're paying for our current landline.  But the average consumer does not factor in activation fees, shipping and handling for "free" equipment, monthly e911 fee, monthly recovery fees, and taxes.

But don't give up on VOIP yet.  These offerings are still great deals, when compared to convetional phone service.  You are still paying a fraction of the cost for comparable service in most cases, and you will get features that your Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) doesn't offer, or charges extra for.  Yet, you need to be aware of the actual cost, and most VOIP Providers don't give you the additional fee information until you are either on the final page of the order submission form, or until you recieve your first phone bill.

AT&T Call Vantage, hailed as the most reliable VOIP telephone provider (I mean, this is Ma Bell we're talking about), costs $24.99, plus e911 fee, plus federal and state taxes.  Depending on the state you live in, this should come to around $28.49 per month.  On top of that you have an initial startup cost of $39.94.  Vonage, the most widely spread VOIP Provider, comes to $36.41 a month for Unlimited service and has a startup cost of $39.94.

Some of the smaller VOIP services that pride themselves in a reliable connection, may be the best alternative to these higher priced name recognition services.  ViaTalk, for instance has recieved notably high marks all across the internet.  With an unlimited plan for a total of $25.45 and a startup cost of $39.90 it is an excellent alternative, with a feature set far better than that of CallVantage.

The consideration of monthly fees, and startup costs should be a high priority for anyone looking into signing up for VOIP telephone service, and much of this information can be gleaned at www.audivoip.com Along with fees and features comparison, the website includes feature analysis and comparison, so that you can make an educated decision as to which VOIP service is right for you.
